Research in Motion (RIM) Chief says Blackberry Storm 9500 and 9530 customer should have expected problems - 27th Jan 2009
In a strange round about admission, Jim Balsillie, the Co-CEO of Research in Motion told the Wall Street Journal that issues with new handset are a modern day reality, which could be interpreted as an admission of RIM being aware of the issues with the handset when it was launched in November 2008.
Blackberry storm was launched as a rival to the iPhone and it took almost two years to develop. RIM had to design new hardware and software to make the device work. According to the Co-CEO Jim Balsillie, they missed the October 2008 deadline and only met the November 2008 launch date by the 2skin of their teeth”. He told Wall Street Journal, “such scrambles (to meet deadlines) -- and the subsequent software glitches that need to be fixed are part of the "new reality" of making complex cell phones in large volumes”.
Vodafone is the only UK service provider who has Blackberry Storm on its network. Vodafone customers are being told that they cannot return or change the handset after 14 days despite this being disputed by the Trading Standards.
Although a software update has been released in November 2008, it has failed to fix the signal problem where the handset is unable to hold Vodafone signal.
